Why cant my computer connect to my 5g router? - I just set up a new NETGEAR n600 dual band router with 2.4 g and 5g. My question is why can my old Toshiba laptop recognize the 5g signal but my new Dell inspiron and Ps3 only recognize the 2.4g signal. My question is why can my new dell inspiron laptop and PS3 recognize the 5g signal. I can only connect to the 2.4 gz with them. Also my old Toshiba Satellite laptop can recognize the 5g signal. There can be a few factors involved while connecting the router first off all need to be enabled with some ports which you can find also on the netgear support website in faq sections. Also if you custom install the router you would get a option on connecting devices to it with a static ip which might also solve your problem. Also make sure that the Dell computer is enabled to actually able to connect to a 5g signal as alot of the older laptops might not have that functions. First, make sure the drivers of your network adapter or wifi adapter is properly installed and updated to the latest version.
If you are using Lan Cable make sure it is working, no cut, no damage or no bend at all. Now follow these steps. Turn all off first, your router, modem even computer/laptop, turn it all off.
Now find the reset button (small hole) of the router and press it for about 10 to 20 seconds then release. Now power on the modem first, let it load for just a second.
Next, turn on your router, let it load also for just a second then connect it to your modem. Lastly, turn on your computer/laptop wait until it loads then you can connect now to the router.
